Our most recent reading club was another great success. We had 15 students attending and 12, 5th grade volunteers. The theme was “Literacy”. Each week, the club director would read a story to them, and then during art time they would make a piece of art connected with the story. Then the art was hung up on the wall. In the meantime, the children were challenged to read 20 stories, which every child accomplished! The final performance went very well. Many parents and friends came to see the children perform. And the refreshments were delicious!
We are so happy to be making an impact early in the lives of these good children, protecting them from big problems later on in life if they did not learn to read now. We are also happy to see these 5th graders learning to lead, practicing important characteristics such as patience, doing what needs to be done when it’s not fun, following directions, and encouraging those who are younger than them.
